Mark Kierpal

Mark is a part-owner and the Managing Director of Urbicus, bringing over 27 years of experience across both government and private consultancy. His early career included six years with Brisbane City Council as a Development Assessment Officer, giving him a strong foundation in statutory planning and regulatory frameworks in Queensland planning.

Mark’s role at Urbicus is twofold. As Managing Director, he oversees the day-to-day operations and promotes the company’s planning expertise within the broader industry. As Planning Manager, he leads a skilled Urban Planning team, managing all Council and State Government applications from inception to approval.

Under Mark’s leadership, the team has processed over 1,000 Development Applications across Queensland in the past five years. While the majority of these have been with Brisbane City Council, Urbicus has extensive experience with a wide range of Local Government Authorities and State Government agencies. The team maintains strong, professional relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, private developers, industry representatives, and political entities.

Now entering its 11th year, Urbicus continues to partner with property owners and developers to deliver pragmatic, commercially viable planning outcomes. Mark is passionate about the integral role of planning in shaping Queensland’s development landscape and remains committed to supporting clients in achieving successful project outcomes.

Mark also takes pride in mentoring his team. He actively shares his knowledge and experience to support professional development and ensure the delivery of efficient, well-informed planning advice across all projects.

Mark enjoys undertaking his own development projects. These experiences allow him to see the planning and development process from the client’s perspective and continuously refine his skills in real-world scenarios.

On a personal note, Mark enjoys travelling with his family both within Australia and overseas. He believes that travel broadens perspectives, offering valuable insights that can be applied to consultancy and urban planning practice.
